Description
Pure metastable cubic FeS (sphalerite structure) rapidly converts to mackinawite (tetrahedral FeS) in a few hours at room temperature. Sphalerite (ZnS) is a stable mineral, and the mineral rudaschevskite (Fe,Zn)S has been discovered. Sphalerite will incorporate up to about 20 wt% Fe in its structure. The question: how much Zn can go into the metastable cubic FeS structure, an dwell it stabilize the phase?
