Research Description
Our lab focuses on finding new antimicrobials to treat multidrug resistant infections. To do this, we engineer bacteria to produce and then self-screen hundreds of thousands of peptide antibiotic candidates using a high-throughput technique called Surface Localized Antimicrobial Display (SLAY). We are especially interested in understanding the therapeutic potential of membrane disruptive peptides, which kill through cell lysis and have evolved throughout nature in the form of venoms, toxins, and as part of host-immune systems.
