Description
The project is about to develop a small aerial vehicle (drone) with a robotic arm, which is programmable to be automatic for deploying sensors and data collection. Hence it is literally armed. In Dr. Chen’s lab, we currently have a working drone prototype with a 3D printed and programmed multi-degree of freedom arm. Further research and development is necessary for investigating its use in field sample collection (yes, the drone will scoop out and fly away …) and monitoring the health of engineering structures.
Location
Kansas City
Qualifications
Students who are interested should have a strong background in programming (Python and C) and mechatronics, and working knowledge in robotics (e.g. path planning). Also the project can be adjusted to fit your interest, either in theoretical analysis, hands on integration (3D printing will be used), or programming.
Logistics and Compensation
Eligible for SEARCH or SUROP grant
