    Research Description
I am an ethnomusicologist and my research is about music and dance. I am a specialist in the dance music of Cuba and Latin America, and circum-Atlantic performance. My areas of interest include the study of musical performance in terms of movement, and embodiment. I have carried out ethnographic research in Havana, Cuba among folkloric performers, exploring how dancers and musicians pursue individual agendas and negotiate identity through creative performance. By creative performance, I mean performances which are both aesthetically satisfying and alter the standard ways that particular genres are performed.
