    Research Description
We are seeking self-motivated undergraduate students with a background in Chemistry, Physics or adjacent field such as Engineering interested in experimental laboratory research. A student with a background or interest in data analytics and/or computer programming might also be considered. Our lab fabricates and characterizes thin films and thin-film-based devices, primarily for electronic and optical applications (semiconductor devices, specialized coatings). Our research has been supported by Intel, the Department of Defense, and the National Science Foundation, and spans application areas including integrated circuit semiconductor chips, photoswitches, neutron detectors, and fusion energy. The research will be focused on Materials Science and/or Device Physics and—depending on student interest/project needs—could involve learning/performing a number of techniques including vacuum-based film deposition/device fabrication, materials and device characterization, computer simulations, computer programming, chemical synthesis, equipment/hardware interfacing, data analysis, etc, as well as participating in regular laboratory upkeep. A successful student will be self-motivated and have good time management skills as well as an intrinsic curiosity/passion for research and learning. Our research group is a dynamic team environment, with regular group meetings, and many tasks requiring a team effort. Please see our website for current projects.
