Kaleb Adney PROF, AST TEACH

    Research Description
I teach classes on the history of Africa, the Middle East, and the World. My research has primarily been on the Ottoman Empire and its economic and cultural life. I am espeically interested in the economic development of the Eastern Mediterranean and the dynamics of ethnic cleansing and demographic engineering that accompanied growth in key industries like tobacco. I have also conducted research on Middle Eastern and North African migration to the Americas and I am the coordinator for a website called The Middle West: MENA Histories of the American Heartland, which provides historical analysis of key events, people, and institutions in the connection between the Middle East and the American Midwest. Students should contact me at ka2cc@umkc.edu to become involved in research on any and all of these topics or themes.
